Outdoor School

Our 6th grade students had a memorable, weeklong experience at Outdoor School along the beautiful Oregon Coast this year. They enjoyed typical Oregon spring weather while exploring the unique ecosystems of our state through hands-on science activities. Students also wrote and performed skits, learned and sang new songs, and, most importantly, built confidence, independence, and a stronger sense of community with their peers.

Running Track Lines

Celebrations of Learning

CWA’s spring Celebrations of Learning were a huge success and enjoyed by students, staff, family, and community members!

Our Kindy and 1st grade students shared original artwork in the styles of Monet, Kandinsky, and Picasso along with fun facts about the artists.
Our 2nd - 5th grade  students hosted an amazing Poetry Slam where students had the opportunity to share their creative writing while strengthening their public speaking skills. All in all it was a very groovy event!

Our Middle School students showcased work celebrating what Community means to them at CWA, they created displays teaching a skill or game in which they are  the experts, and they highlighted many of the educational experiences at Outdoor School.

At the high school levels, ninth grade students applied concepts from Geometry/Data Reasoning and Physical Science to analyze data, solve problems, and demonstrate their understanding through authentic, project-based learning experiences. In 10th grade, students followed a theme of survival as they presented projects connecting war and the Holocaust with Elie Wiesel's Night, exploring the human experience, resilience, and the lessons history continues to teach us today.

Our Juniors and Seniors presented their experiences gained in the community service-based Youth Take Action class and Senior Internship. Our students are doing incredible work in the community and their service is invaluable.

Well done to all of you that participated, your hard work and presentation skills were amazing!

K-5 Philip Foster Farm Field Trip

After completing their unit on the Oregon Trail, our fourth-grade students, alongside the rest of our K–5 learners, spent an exciting day at Philip Foster Farm. Philip Foster, one of Oregon’s early pioneers, played a significant role in the state's development. His farm and home in Eagle Creek were an important stop along the historic Barlow Road.
During their visit, students stepped back in time and experienced life as “pioneers for a day.” They ground corn, operated a crosscut saw, helped build a log cabin, washed laundry by hand, loaded a covered wagon, attended lessons in an 1850s schoolhouse, and participated in many other hands-on activities. This immersive field trip is always a highlight of the school year and a favorite among students!

Senior Luncheon

It was fun once again to celebrate the accomplishments of our seniors at our Annual Senior Luncheon. Students were provided a delicious lunch in a festive atmosphere where they were able to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate their High School journey together. Our seniors were very supportive  of each other as they received honor cords for department awards, Oregon State Assessment achievement, college credit, Youth Take Action, longevity at CWA, biliteracy, and more.

Nintendo Tournament

CWA’s Middle and High School students competed in a Super Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart tournament hosted by our leadership team. Mr. Linn and Mrs. Booth had the advantage but overall it was a very well attended and engaging event, thank you Leadership Team for hosting!

ECO New Student Orientation

CWA welcomed 41 new students into the Early College Option program this spring. These students have earned this opportunity based on their academic excellence, their contributions in the community and their commitment to education. We are very proud of their accomplishments and wish them all the best!

Butterflies

Butterfly Day at CWA

CWA’s elementary students studied and celebrated all things butterfly this spring in their classrooms! From art projects, to books, to the actual life cycle of the butterfly. We had fun watching them grow from caterpillars, to becoming a chrysalis to eventually emerging as butterflies. Students were engaged every step of the way until we eventually released them all in early June.

Bob's Red Mill Update

On June 9, Clackamas Web Academy appeared before the Milwaukie Planning Commission to seek land use approval for our proposed campus at the former Bob's Red Mill restaurant site.
We are incredibly grateful for the support shown by our families, staff, and community members who attended the hearing, submitted written testimony, and shared their experiences with CWA. We would also like to thank State Representative April Dobson for testifying in support of the project and highlighting the important role CWA plays in providing flexible public education options for Oregon students.

A special thank you is also owed to CCA Board Member Rachel Schulte, who attended the hearing and submitted public testimony in support of the project. Her advocacy and leadership helped demonstrate the Board's commitment to creating a permanent home for CWA and expanding opportunities for our students and families.

While the Planning Commission did not make a final decision, they voted to continue the hearing process and will revisit the application on July 14. If you would like to submit comments in support of the project, please send your testimony to:

Ryan Dyar, AICP
Senior Planner, City of Milwaukie
DyarR@milwaukieoregon.gov

Personal stories about how CWA has positively impacted your student and family can be especially helpful as the Commission continues its review.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support CWA and this exciting opportunity. We will keep families informed as the process moves forward.
