Esperamos que haya podido salir al aire libre en este clima cálido y soleado que somos tan afortunados de tener en esta época del año en el hermoso noroeste. En este mes de gratitud, estamos muy agradecidos por su apoyo y que hayan elegido nuestra escuela para la educación de su hijo. Students in Astronomy are learning about the immense size, complexity and beauty of the ever-evolving universe. Topics in Forensic Science, the application of science for solving crimes, include toxicology, DNA fingerprinting, ballistics, blood type, and trace evidence. Students in Doorways to Expression are examining self-expression through drawing, painting, photography, and sculpture, students in Ancient Empires are taking a journey back in time to examine the culture, art, and architecture of different ancient empires, our Yearbook students are busy interviewing students and staff, and our Leadership students are planning fun school activities for all grade levels to participate in. Over 30% of current CWA high school students are enrolled in one or more college classes this fall at Clackamas, Portland and Mt. Hood Community Colleges along with Oregon Tech, a four year university. From Accounting, Art and Automotive to Writing and Welding, our high school students are learning skills and achieving great things at the college level as part of their CWA high school experience. Registration for Winter term at the colleges opens in November. Students who would like to take a college class should begin the application and registration process now. Aprender a colaborar en equipo en persona y/o de forma remota es un aspecto fundamental de la educación de los estudiantes de hoy para el futuro. A los estudiantes se les presentó el proyecto “Skoolie Life”, que divide un proyecto complejo en 9 tareas igualmente divididas. Los estudiantes seleccionaron tareas basándose en intereses consensuados. Cada equipo colaboró durante más de dos semanas en este proyecto paralelo mientras continuaban con sus tareas científicas habituales. We want to ensure that all of our students feel welcome, safe, accepted, and cared for here at CWA. PSAT CWA was exc ited to offer the PSAT onsite for the very first time this fall. We are now registered with the College Board as an official testing site and will be offering the test for years to come! Art Grant Award A huge shout out to our HS Language Arts teacher, Debbie Steere, for being awarded the NCEF art grant. The funds provided to our school from this grant allowed us to buy professional art supplies, have given our students art opportunities in many of their classes, and have given students access to art workshops and other fun art based activities. Our Elementary students hosted an amazing science fair, where the scientific method was on full display. Our Middle School students showcased work from Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science using display boards or slideshows. At the high school levels, ninth graders showed off their learning through unique projects in science and math, English and World History, respectively. In 10th grade, students followed a theme of survival as they presented for Biology, US History, English, and Math. Our Juniors and Seniors presented their experiences gained in the community service-based Youth Take Action class and Senior Internship. Well done to all of you that participated, your hard work and presentation skills were amazing! CWA was transformed into an elegant ballroom for the evening and our students were dressed to the nines. Students were able to see pigs, goats, chickens, cows, and more. Comuníquese con su maestro de YTA si está buscando más oportunidades de voluntariado. 8th Grade Bowling CWA’s 8th grade students got to enjoy a special field trip to Milwaukie Bowl and Pietro’s Pizza to end their year. Students had fun bowling, walking to Pietros, playing games, eating pizza and spending time together before summer break. It was fun to watch them grow from caterpillars, to becoming a chrysalis to eventually emerging as butterflies. Students were engaged every step of the way until we eventually released them all in early June. Students were provided a delicious Pietro’s pizza lunch in a festive atmosphere where they were able to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate their High School journey together. Our seniors were very supportive of each other as they received honor cords for department awards, Oregon State Assessments, college credit, Youth Take Actions, longevity at CWA, biliteracy, and more.     Boletín de otoño de 2023 ¡Hola familias de CWA! ¡Feliz caída! Esperamos que haya podido salir al aire libre en este clima cálido y soleado que somos tan afortunados de tener en esta época del año en el hermoso noroeste. En este mes de gratitud, estamos muy agradecidos por su apoyo y que hayan elegido nuestra escuela para la educación de su hijo. Sports Day at CWA To celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day, we invited ALL students to dress up in their favorite athletic wear, to support their favorite team, to support their favorite player or to wear their very own uniform. Our students are engaged in basketball, softball, baseball, football, tennis, dance, cheer, equestrian, trap and skeet, violin, gymnastics, skateboarding, and more. They worked hard at City Hall, NW Sports, Unitus Credit Union, All State Insurance and The Community Wellness Center. A big thank you to Ms. Hlifka for helping our students be prepared and to our parent volunteers for spending the day with us, we couldn’t have done it without you! These sessions are engaging, meaningful, and connected to real-world learning. All students are welcome—and encouraged—to join in the fun and learning! Our Middle School students proudly participated in our first-ever Oregon Battle of the Books! They read a ton, showed great teamwork, and most importantly—had a lot of fun along the way.
